Why More Women Over 40 Are Booking Boudoir Sessions in Sacramento

There is something truly special about the women over 40 who choose to book their first boudoir session.

These are women who know themselves.

They’re often not walking into the studio because they wanted to impress someone else. They’re not trying to recreate a photo they saw on social media, impress a partner, or fit into someone else’s idea of what sexy looks like.

Instead, they’re creating images for themselves.

They’ve spent years learning who they are, what they love, what makes them feel beautiful, and what parts of themselves they want to celebrate. By the time many women reach their forties, fifties, and beyond, there is often a level of self-awareness that simply comes from living life.

And that changes everything about the experience.

One of my favorite things about photographing women over 40 is the way they approach wardrobe.

They’re not just bringing outfits that make them feel sexy.

They’re bringing pieces that tell a story.

A favorite leather jacket they’ve owned for years. A vintage band tee. A cozy oversized sweater they practically live in. Cowboy boots from countless adventures. A collection of jewelry gathered over decades. A beautiful dress that makes them feel powerful. Sometimes it’s something glamorous, and sometimes it’s something incredibly simple.

The common thread isn’t the outfit itself.

It’s that the pieces feel like them.

The session becomes less about creating a fantasy and more about capturing the person they’ve spent decades becoming.

I often find that these women are far less concerned with perfection than younger versions of themselves might have been.

They’re not asking how to look like someone else.

They’re asking how to look like the best version of themselves.

How to capture their confidence.

Their strength.

Their softness.

Their personality.

Their story.

And honestly, those are often the images that have the most impact.

Because years later, when they look back at those photographs, they don’t just see a beautiful woman.

They see themselves. They see all the different sides of themselves that the world has gotten to enjoy about them, but that they themselves have missed out on.

Not a version altered to fit a trend. Not a version of themselves that is a mask they use to navigate the world.

Not a version created for someone else’s approval.

Just themselves—confident, authentic, and fully owning the person they’ve become.

And I think that’s why boudoir over 40 can be so powerful.

It’s no longer about proving you’re beautiful.

It’s about recognizing that you always were.
