Why Bringing Your Own Outfits to a Boudoir Session Creates the Best Experience | Northern California Boudoir Photography

When it comes to boudoir photography, one of the questions I get asked all the time is: “Do you provide outfits, or should I bring my own?”

While I do have a small client closet with a few beautiful pieces, I always encourage women to bring their own clothing and lingerie to their session. Why? Because the outfits you choose are such an important part of the experience—and they tell your story.

1. Showcasing Your Individuality & Style

The most powerful boudoir images are the ones that feel like you. When you bring your own clothing, you’re bringing in pieces that reflect your personality, your style, and your energy. Maybe that’s a lace bodysuit, your favorite band tee, or even your partner’s button-up shirt. These little touches make your images more authentic and unique to you.

2. Comfort is Everything

Let’s be honest—trying on unfamiliar outfits can feel like a struggle. You don’t know how they’ll fit, if they’ll flatter your body the way you want, or if you’ll feel comfortable moving in them. By bringing your own clothes, you’re already confident in how they feel and look on you, which allows you to relax and truly shine during your session.

3. A Deeper Connection to Your Images

When you see your final gallery, there’s something magical about recognizing your own style and personal touches in the photos. Those favorite outfits become part of the memory, making your boudoir images even more special and meaningful.

A Little Pro Tip

Don’t overthink it! Bring a mix of styles—something sexy, something playful, and something meaningful. Even a cozy sweater or that dress you always feel amazing in can create gorgeous, intimate portraits.

At the end of the day, boudoir is about celebrating you. The outfits are just the wrapping paper—you are the gift.
